The 38th Annual Western Canadian Oldtimers Baseball Championship came and went over the weekend at Berard Field in Kindersley. Only a four-team field this year, the host Kindersley Klippers were joined by three longtime participants in Kindersley — the Provost Buds, Medicine Hat Jays, and eventual champion Regina Drifters.

After the field was rebuilt following a rainy Thursday, the Klippers took the field first on Friday night and lost 6-1 to Medicine Hat. Retreating to the stands to watch the night cap, Provost beat Regina 6-5 in a good end to day one in Kindersley.
A full day of action on Saturday began with Medicine Hat beating Provost 12-11 in another close game at Berard Field. The second game Saturday saw Regina beat Kindersley 15-3, and then staying on the field for the third game Regina stayed hot winning 11-6 against Medicine Hat. The final game put Kindersley up against Provost, the Klippers winning 10-5 to close out the round robin.

Sunday then started with the same matchups as the previous two Saturday night, just flipped in order as Kindersley and Provost played at 11:00 AM in the third-place game where the Klippers took a 4-1 win to win a trophy in their home tournament.

With a quick finish to the first game and some possibly rainy weather pending, the final game between Medicine Hat and Regina was able to fire up a little earlier than expected.

A low scoring affair unlike their previous matchup, Medicine Hat took a 4-3 lead into the final inning of play as pitching and defense played a key factor into the sixth inning. The back-and-forth ball game ended quickly, however, after a triple helped tie the game, leaving Regina's "Goose" to drive in the winning run for the Drifters just two batters later.

The host Klippers thanked every team who came out for the weekend, as well as the fans who came out to watch. The tournament typically puts an end to their season at home, a few more practices still left to go as the Oldtimers prepare for their annual tournament out in PEI.
