Today, Rocky View Schools (RVS) announced that the Government of Alberta approved five more modular classrooms through its in-year modular funding program.

“RVS appreciates the government’s continued commitment to addressing our overcrowded schools,” said Board Chair Fiona Gilbert. “These five additional modular classrooms to go along with the five new, plus one washroom relocation, approved earlier this spring, will help us better serve our students while we wait for new schools to be built.”

According to RVS, modular classrooms provide a critical short-term solution to help alleviate pressure in full schools.

"With new school construction typically taking two to three years to complete after full construction funding is approved by the province, continued investment in modular learning spaces is essential to meeting the immediate space needs of RVS’s rapidly growing student population."

RVS places modular classrooms at schools facing the most pressing overcrowding and the highest projected enrolment growth. Decisions are based on enrolment forecasts, site suitability, and the division’s long-term capital plan, which accounts for upcoming new school openings.

The school division expects the newly approved modular classrooms to be in place by spring 2026 and plans to install them at these schools:

  • École Edwards Elementary School in Airdrie – two modular classrooms.
  • Ralph McCall School in Airdrie – two modular classrooms.
  • Rainbow Creek Elementary School in Chestermere – one modular classroom.

“We have long advocated for new schools and modular classrooms,” said Gilbert. “We are encouraged that the voices of our families and communities are being heard. These in-year modular approvals are an important step forward for RVS.”

Back in April, Rocky View Schools got approved for five modular classrooms and one relocation of a washroom unit.

According to RVS, four of the modular classrooms will be placed at Nose Creek Elementary School in Airdrie, reducing utilization of the school from 118 per cent to 101 per cent for 2025/26.
