A weekend trip to Sandy Lake has ended in tragedy after a 32-year-old man from Brandon drowned while swimming.
Yellowhead RCMP say the call came in around 11:05 p.m. on Saturday, July 12. The man had been swimming with three others at Sandy Lake Beach when they noticed he was missing. He was found shortly after in the water and brought to a nearby dock.
Paramedics were already on scene when officers arrived and were performing CPR. The man was later pronounced dead.
No signs of foul play
Investigators say they do not suspect criminal activity in the incident.
“Emergency Medical Services were performing CPR on a male, who was later pronounced deceased,” notes Yellowhead RCMP in a statement.
The man’s name has not been released.
Investigation remains open
While foul play isn’t suspected, the investigation is ongoing.
“The male was located shortly after in the water and brought to a nearby dock where medical assistance was provided,” continues the RCMP.
“No criminality is suspected,” remarks the detachment.
Yellowhead RCMP serves several Westman communities through detachments in Shoal Lake, Hamiota, Elphinstone, and Wasagaming.
