A grizzly bear with cubs recently bluff charged hikers in K-Country, prompting a trail closure.
The bluff charge happened at the Rawson Lake trail and Sarrail Ridge route in Kananaskis Country, prompting Alberta parks to issue a trail closure for that area on July 11.
While this bear encounter happened at the Rawson Lake trail and Sarrail Ridge route, people can encounter bears anywhere in the Kananaskis region, at any time.
According to Alberta Parks, to help avoid a surprise bear encounter, keep all attractants, such as food, garbage, pet food, and any other scented items, secure from bears, and never leave them unattended.
On top of that, make plenty of noise, travel in groups, be aware of your surroundings, keep pets on a leash, look and listen for signs of bears, and carry bear spray in a way that makes it easily accessible.
