Two males were injured after a shooting in the West End on Tuesday afternoon.

At 2:42 p.m. on July 15, West District General Patrol and Tactical Support Team (TST) responded to reports of shots being fired in the 1800 block of Ellice Avenue.

Two males, aged 16 and 18, were suffering from gunshot wounds. First aid was provided by officers.

Both males were taken to the hospital. One of the males remains in unstable condition and is awaiting surgery while the other is in stable condition. The injuries are not life-threatening.

Safety in and around evacuation centres and temporary residences is important to keep residents of northern communities who are in Winnipeg due to the wildfires safe.

WPS said in a news release, "Our police liaison teams are visiting evacuation centres throughout the city to ensure everyone feels safe and supported. We are working closely with community partners, including NGOs and service providers to promote a safe environment for thousands of evacuees now staying in our city. Additional officers and resources are in place specifically to support this effort."

Police are asking anyone who was in the area and believes they may have witnessed the shooting to come forward. Anyone with information or video is asked to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 204-986-6219 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org
