Saturday's 2025 WCBL All-Star Game in Okotoks will cap the Saskatoon Berries current Alberta road trip, as the team heads to Lethbridge on Thursday for the first of two games, after splitting a pair against the Okotoks Dawgs Tuesday and Wednesday in a showdown between first-place teams.
The league, and East Division leading Berries traveled to Seaman Stadium in Okotoks for two highly anticipated games against the East Division leading Dawgs, and the games didn't disappoint in the slightest.
Tuesday night started out rotten for the Berries, going down 5-0 after the first. More damage from the home team led to a 7-1 Dawgs lead through three innings, but that margin was cut to 7-4 after Saskatoon scores in the fourth and fifth, and then in the sixth the Berries exploded for seven runs to take the lead and hold on for an eventual 11-8 win.
Wednesday started out back and forth as the Berries and Dawgs took a 2-2 game into the third, before Saskatoon went up 5-2 with runs the next two innings.
After holding the Berries scoreless in the fifth Okotoks tied it with three runs of their own bottom half of the inning, increasing their lead the next inning and adding insurance to take a 9-5 final.
The 32-6 Berries continue their Alberta road swing tonight in Lethbridge starting a two-game series against the 23-14 Bulls. The Bulls are two wins behind the Sylvan Lake Gulls for second place in the West Division, a tight race shaping up at the top of the division with the Dawgs at 28 wins.
After the trip to Lethbridge the Berries will turn back to Okotoks for the All-Star Game on Saturday. The Berries have six players on the roster for Saturday's game at Seaman Stadium, pitchers Tanner Hosick and Matt Whitney, joining position players catcher Bailyn Sorensen, infielders Abiam Medina and Ethan Menard, and finally outfielder Carter Beck.
Menard, tied for the league lead in home runs with 9, will also be a participant in the Home Run Derby.
After Saturday's all-star festivities the Berries will make the long trip to Weyburn on Sunday for the start of a two-game series against the Beavers, the first of three straight on the road with a trip to Mitchell Field in Swift Current mixed in on Tuesday.
The Berries are still the #1 team in the WCBL Power Rankings. There are 16 games left to go in the WCBL regular season, a mad dash to the finish ahead for playoff hopefuls.
