Local baseball fans went home happy last night after watching the Moose Jaw Miller Express trounce the Medicine Hat Mavericks 11-2. Austin Gurney went 2 for 5 at the plate, driving in 3 runs. Westin Walls was the winning pitcher, scattering 6 hits over 7 innings and striking out 10. The same two teams play again tonight at Ross Wells Park.
In other Western Canadian Baseball League action last night, Weyburn and Swift Current split a double header. The 57s won 2-1 while the Beavers bounced back in the nightcap with a 6-1 win. The Regina Red Sox beat Brooks 12-11, while Okotoks outscored Saskatoon Berries 9-5.
The Major League Baseball season resumes tomorrow night after the All-Star break. The first place Toronto Blue Jays will play host to the San Francisco Giants this weekend.
And there's CFL action tonight with the Argos in Montreal to play the Alouettes. The Saskatchewan Roughriders will play the BC Lions in Vancouver Saturday night.
