A low-pressure system is expected to bring rain across much of Saskatchewan this weekend, with central and east-central regions—including Humboldt—likely to see the heaviest precipitation beginning Saturday night, according to Environment Canada.

Crawford Luke, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, said the system is moving in from Alberta and Montana on Saturday and will track eastward through Sunday and into Monday.

“For Humboldt, the best chance for steady rain is going to be Saturday night through Sunday,” said Luke. “I actually wouldn’t be surprised if much of Saturday stays dry, which may be good news for events planned during the day.”

Environment Canada is forecasting rainfall totals between 10 to 15 millimetres across most of the province by Monday morning. Some areas may see slightly higher amounts due to localized thunderstorms, but the overall pattern points to widespread coverage.

“Generally speaking, it looks like everyone’s going to see at least a little bit of rain this weekend,” Luke said, noting that even western parts of the province—often drier—are expected to receive precipitation.

The system is forecast to move into Manitoba by Monday, though some lingering showers may continue in parts of Saskatchewan early in the week. Drier weather and high pressure are expected to return by midweek.

Luke emphasized that while the rain may disrupt some outdoor plans, it brings much-needed moisture to many regions. “Hopefully things can stay dry Saturday during the day for some of those events, but by Saturday night, we’ll likely start to see the rain move in.”
