Prairie Basketball League is holding its annual Battleground Exposure Camps this weekend.

Coach Denzel Green says the 3-day camp is designed to get players early exposure to universities and colleges.

“It's nice to see, you know, elite-level basketball players from outside of the city getting recognition as well. And you know, making it onto these college and university teams.”

Green says it is amazing to see the rural development of this program.

“It's amazing to see how many kids are interested in basketball and are out here playing basketball at such a high level.”

The camp has been running for three years and continues to grow year after year.

“The amount of people that are coming out here and driving out here and making this commitment, to be here for three days and giving it all they've got, is pretty cool to see."

Green says it is cool to see the program get players scouted and looked at.

“It feels like we're inspiring and doing good things for the community.

Developing this program brings more attention to players from Steinbach and surrounding communities. Mike Page has been noted to be crucial in bringing the southeast access to opportunities that are more commonly offered in Winnipeg.

“It just takes somebody like Mike, who's willing to take the risk and, you know, grow something like this outside of the city and take his time and have his connections kind of come in and just have a look at the talent that's outside of the city.”
