If you’ve never stepped inside the Portage la Prairie Regional Library, tomorrow is your chance to explore it, with a little guidance and a lot of community spirit.

The Portage Learning and Literacy Centre (PLLC) invites newcomers and long-time residents alike to the upcoming library tour, which Clyde Tagalog, Communications and Events Coordinator, says is designed to introduce participants to the many free resources and programs the local library has to offer.

“This is for everyone who hasn’t been to the library,” says Tagalog. “But especially for those who are new to Manitoba or Portage, so they have a chance to discover the city. This is a great place to start."

The idea came from the organization’s regular Conversation Circles, which take place every Tuesday and Friday. As the group brainstormed ways to help participants engage more with the community, the local library seemed like a natural next step.

“We thought, how about we also go to the library to learn what they offer? Maybe we can even study there or hold our Conversation Circles in the library sometime," he explains.

The tour will include a guided walk-through of the building, an overview of the available services, and a chance for participants to ask questions. Resources such as language learning tools, computer access, and community events are just some of the things new visitors may discover.

Tagalog, who will be joining the tour for the first time himself, says he's excited to learn alongside everyone else.

“We need to embrace learning and be curious in every moment of our lives. No matter who you are, you still have a lot more to learn, and I hope everyone gains a little knowledge from the tour."

Anyone interested in taking part can sign up through the registration link or visit the PLLC’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

For newcomers looking to settle into Portage life or long-time locals who haven’t made the trip, this tour is a great opportunity to connect with both the library and the community it serves.
