It’s kitten season, and the Moose Jaw Humane Society has put an intake freeze on cats and kittens until further notice.

The shelter is at capacity with an influx of kittens and is running out of room to keep them.

That being said, if you find a stray cat that needs help, Moose Jaw Humane Society executive director Dana Haukaas said you should still give the shelter a call.

“If you do find a stray cat and you want to bring it in, give us a call so that we know you have it. We'd be happy to provide you food, litter, litter boxes, whatever you need to maybe foster it for us until space opens up,” she said.

Because the humane society is relying on fosters until there is room at the shelter again, Haukaas said they could use all the help they can get.

“If you are willing to take in a pregnant mama cat, a mama cat with kittens or orphaned kittens, give us a call. We'd be happy to add you to our foster list,” Haukaas said.

The humane society is reminding residents that if the stray appears to be healthy, it’s best to just leave the animal alone and let it find its way home.

If you do need to bring a stray animal to the shelter, whether it’s a dog or cat, you are asked to call the humane society at 306-692-1517 before bringing them in.
