This weekend, the cooler weather is appreciated by softball fans as families and friends gather to support the Eastman Wildcats.
The Wildcats are hosting U13 AAA fastball provincials at the Friedensfeld Community Center from July 17th to 20th, and local supporters are crowding the stands.
President of the Friedensfeld Community Center, Roberta Stevens, says the local support has been awesome for the park and the community center.
“This is a great weekend for us. We have hundreds of people that go through the park. It's awesome.”
Many of the families and friends of players have come to the event wearing tons of merch to show up for their teams.
Amongst the crowd, older players from the Wildcats are encouraging the U13 team to enjoy these moments.
With four days of tournaments, fastball fans from all teams keep coming back to the canteen. Staff are excited to see the event grow.
“We have had to go, go back and actually buy extra today, and I will have to go back and buy extra tomorrow, which is totally awesome.” Says Stevens
All of the funds from the canteen at this event are going back to the community center.
“We this fall are planning to upgrade some of our diamonds. We have to look at putting some money away for fencing because it's getting older.”
Stevens says the community center relies on community support. Events like these, which bring people in, allow the park and the center to develop further and share those results with visiting softball fans.
