Dog owners in Winnipeg searching for a new place to take their pets can now head to the Whyte Ridge Community Centre.
A new four-season off-leash dog park has opened up behind the community centre at 170 Fleetwood Road.
"This is an exciting day for humans and canines alike in the Whyte Ridge community," said Janice Lukes, Councillor for Waverley West. "There are a lot of adorable, active four-legged friends in this area, and I’m so proud to be part of bringing them a year-round place to play."
Before the park opened, the community centre offered a seasonal dog area in one of its outdoor rinks.
The new fully fenced-in area spans .25 hectares and features seating areas, sealed pet waste containers and gated entry.
"This dog park isn’t just another project," said Kirill Pirgalin, President of Whyte Ridge Community Centre. "This is a response to years of community requests for a safe, dedicated space for our four-legged family members. It’s an excellent example of how our partnerships with government enable our board to deliver vital services to our community."
The project cost $80,000 and is the first park to move through the off-leash area implementation procedure identified in the Council-approved Off-Leash Dog Area Master Plan.
