Three Softball Saskatchewan medals came back home to West Central Saskatchewan over the weekend. At the U17 'C' draw in Tisdale the Kindersley Royals beat the Unity Panthers in the championship game for a gold/silver finish, while the Macklin Lakers fell just short in 'B' competition in Rosthern and Hague claiming silver in a finals heartbreaker.

Starting with Macklin, the Lakers were the only local team in a 21-team field.

After a 16-6 win in the opener against the Regina Lazers, the Lakers were shut out 7-0 by the Twin City Angels. Macklin bounced back on Saturday for a 10-1 win, finishing second in the blue pool to earn a spot in the quarterfinals. Sunday started strong with a 14-6 win over Yorkton, and after that the Lakers bats stayed hot in the semis for a 14-4 win over Swift Current.

Keeping the offense going was a key headed into the gold medal game against Twin City, who shutout the Lakers to start the tournament.

The Lakers did the best they could getting to double digit runs, but it wasn't enough as the Angels edged the Lakers 14-13.

The other tournament in Tisdale featured three local teams, Delisle, Unity, and Kindersley all in a six-team field.

Delisle was first to play, losing 9-2 to the Twin City Angels Tango. After that Unity beat Tisdale 11-1, and then Kindersley started their tournament with a 12-2 win against Twin City. Delisle beat Unity 18-10 in the next game, and then after the opening ceremonies, Kindersley lost 14-11 to Tisdale to wrap up day one.

On Saturday Unity beat Twin City 12-3, and Kindersley beat Delisle 10-0 to get the day started. Unity and Kindersley faced off later that afternoon for a 13-12 Unity win, Delisle losing 20-3 to the hosts to close out the round robin.

Unity's win earned them a bye to the gold medal game, leaving Kindersley up against Tisdale in the bronze/semi-final game, where they won 12-10 to set up a rematch with the Panthers in the finals.

In the final game, the Royals would avenge their one-run loss from the day prior with an offensive explosion 16-8 win to take home the gold.

Congratulations to each athlete and coach who brought home a Softball Saskatchewan medal this past weekend.

That tournament was the last minor softball action left for local teams, but two adult division teams are still locked in and ready to go.
