It's always nice when you can end the season with a win.
The AAA Zone 7 Sun Devils did just that on Saturday with an exciting 10-9 victory over the East Central Red Sox. In only their third season of existence the Sun Devils finished with a record of 10-22, representing marked improvement once again this year after going 8-28 in 2024, and 4-30 in their inaugural season back in 2023.
Being a new team has its challenges, but for the Sun Devils program, just getting everyone together is the biggest hurdle. The team is based out of Meadow Lake and draws from an enormous radius to make the Zone 7 moniker more than just a name with most players at least 1.5 hours away from any given practice.
The Sun Devils social media shared that fact in an end of season post on Tuesday night. It takes a lot to run a team, and people from every Zone 7 community did their best to step up.
"We want to thank everybody that helped all year to keep this program growing. Most of all we want to thank the coaches. Regan Beck, Mark Ralston, Chris Barnes, Brett Harrison, Jason Schell and our manager Tara Ralston. Always making personal sacrifices just to get to practice!"
The team is nothing without its talent, as the Sun Devils also congratulated their three outgoing players.
"We also want to wish the best of luck to our 3 graduates Reid Beck, Colton Parker and Parker Spence! We wish you the very best fellas!"
Those players joined four local players on the roster, Keegan Schell from Wilkie, Connor Ralston from Unity, Cale Morris from Rosetown, and Darian Lowe from Macklin.
Three of those players pitched, Ralston logging 38.2 IP to sit third on the team in that category. Morris pitched 7.0 innings during the season and Lowe pitched 1.0.
Ralston was also a strong offensive contributor with 10 RBI to sit third, Schell in fourth with eight RBI on the year. Lowe impressed with a .289 AVG and was on base behind the big bats along with Ralston as each player finished with 12 runs scored. Morris didn't hit for average but still finished with a .429 OBP, a run scoring penchant as well in crossing the plate three times throughout his 21 plate appearances.
