While the three other local senior baseball leagues around West Central continue their postseason, the Fertile Valley Baseball League is over and done with after the Oyen Eagles swept the Rosetown Angels in the league final last week to complete an undefeated season and second straight championship campaign.

The Eagles went 10-0 in the regular season with a +82-run differential. The Eagles kept that trend going in the first round of playoffs against the Kindersley Stallions with an 11-1 win in Game 1, and then in Game 2 Oyen won a closer game 8-6 to advance to the finals against the Rosetown Angels.

Game 1 of the finals was played in Rosetown and the Angels nearly took an upset win, falling just short as Oyen got things together for a 7-6 final. That sent the series to Oyen for Game 2 where the Eagles closed out their dominant run with a 6-1 win.

The Eagles second championship in a row comes after Oyen was runners-up in the FVBL in both 2022 and 2019. Oyen residents have baseball in their blood, and back-to-back senior championships prove that the sport remains alive and well across all ages in east-central Alberta.
