On July 13, 2025, members responded to a call of shots fired at a vehicle. RCMP responded and learned from the victims that the suspect had also pointed a firearm at them and that they were known to the suspect. The suspect drove off in a pickup truck with a quad sitting in the bed.
Peace River RCMP received several reports from the public with sightings of the suspect. Thanks to assistance from Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team, Western Alberta District (WAD) Crime Reduction Unit, WAD Containment Team, Alberta RCMP Community Response Team and Alberta RCMP Police Dog Services, Peace River RCMP was able to locate and arrest the suspect without incident.
As a result of the investigation, Rodney Conrad Ominayak (41), a resident of Little Buffalo, was arrested on warrants and was additionally charged with:
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle (x2);
- Operation of vehicle while prohibited (x2);
- Flight from police (x2);
- Resisting peace officer (x2);
- Uttering threats (x2);
- Pointing firearm;
- Other firearm-related offences (x8); and
- Mischief under $5000;
Ominayak was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Peace River on July 28, 2025.
