A slightly above average number of calls during the week of July 13th to 20th for the Weyburn Police Service saw 91 responses by its members, including 13 requests for well-being or mental health checks. According to the weekly report, the majority of those incidents were resolved without needing further intervention. Two people, however, were taken to the hospital for additional care.

Four adults were charged in separate incidents throughout the week for breaching court-imposed conditions, with each of the breaches considered minor and each person released with a future court date.

Two assaults saw charges laid, including one taking place on Sunday, July 13th, in a public area between a man and a woman who knew each other. Police report the disagreement escalated when the female struck the male with an object, which caused minor injuries. She was arrested and later released on conditions, including having no contact with the male.

A complaint of sexual assault by a man towards a woman was reported to the WPS last Monday. The investigation resulted in the man being arrested and released on conditions.

A 'Report Impaired Driver' (RID) complaint was made to the WPS last Tuesday after a man was witnessed leaving a local drinking establishment while impaired. Upon locating the suspect, the officers initiated an impaired driving investigation. However, the man, who appeared highly intoxicated, refused to provide a breath sample into an approved screening device. He was arrested for his refusal and released once sober.

The WPS is reminding Weyburn residents of the City of Weyburn's Bylaw regarding Fire Pits. While backyard fires are a great way to enjoy summer evenings, they must comply with the regulations set out in the City’s Fire Prevention Bylaw.

Police remind that fire pits must be constructed from non-combustible materials, include a proper screen cover, and be located at a safe distance from structures, trees, and property lines.

Fires must always be supervised, kept to a manageable size, and never lit in windy conditions or when smoke may affect nearby residents.

Burning anything other than clean, seasoned wood or charcoal is strictly prohibited.

Some of the Permits are required for non-certified fire pits and can be obtained at City Hall. Application forms are also available at weyburn.ca.
