Kinsmen Moose Jaw Minor Football (KMJMF) is reminding young football players that their registration is almost closed.
Boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 13 need to be registered before the August 1 deadline. There are three age groups for the boys in U10, U12, and U14. While the Lady Outlaw is for girls between 11 and 13.
"We're sitting at about 171 kids right now, and we usually finish about 230. So we got a pretty good push here. In the last two weeks, a lot of people sign up late," said the president of KMJMF, Bryan Boys.
Each gender is not limited only to its category. Players can be in whatever division they are comfortable with in relation to their size and skill.
"A lot of people are afraid it's physical and are worried about injuries. It's about building toughness. We have a lot of players, we have great medical staff, and we have incredible equipment. Football is going to teach them all about teamwork."
August 11 is when the KMJMF begins player evaluations and handing out equipment, with practice starting August 18. Soon thereafter, all the teams in each age group have a draft, and youngsters are selected to their respective teams to allow for parity and avoid stacked teams.
The U10 season will have two practices a week and four jamborees as the season wraps up by the end of September. As for the U12 and U14 divisions, they go right until the end of October depending on playoffs for each team. Also for those first time football parents who are worried about cost, equipment is included in the fees.
"We provide all the equipment. We're not like hockey where you go buy your sticks and new equipment; all that stuff we give you," stated Boys.
