Airdronian Kayden Jessom and the U22 Silvertips major female lacrosse team are celebrating its first-ever provincial championship.
They went into provincials with a perfect 16–0 regular season record but stumbled in their opener, falling 8–5 to the Calgary Cardinals.
The Silvertips bounced back with two solid victories before playing the Cardinals again for gold. They took an early 2-0 lead and didn't let up, winning 8–4 to claim the championship.
The Silvertips had won two silver and one bronze in the previous three provincial titles going into this weekend's victory in Ponoka.
Although the team is pleased to be a member of the Rockyview Lacrosse Association, in 2022 it relocated from Airdrie to the Max Bell Centre in order to give players in the Calgary area a more convenient location.
