Showers and thunderstorms crossed Southern Manitoba Tuesday morning, bringing accumulating rainfall to essentially everywhere in the Pembina and Red River Valleys.
"A slower moving area of low pressure pushed northeastward out of the Dakotas early yesterday morning, bringing rain pretty much from the Saskatchewan to Ontario border before the precipitation tapered off early Tuesday afternoon in the eastern half of the province," said CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner. "The embedded thunderstorms within the overall rainfall area remained below severe thresholds, but we have received reports of brief, heavy downpours of a few minutes in a number of locations."

Smoky conditions returning
Air Quality Warnings are now in effect for all of Southern Manitoba, with the expectation forest fire smoke will be significant for all of Wednesday and much of Thursday.
"As the winds wrapped around the low, shifting northerly, and the cold front associated with this system swept through the region, we saw a return wildfire smoke across the area," said Sumner. "Slightly below average temperatures are expected today and Thursday, but we are expecting the humidity to continue, and in fact for the remainder of the week.
Highs today will be around 23 to 25, with 27 degrees the average daytime high for this point in July.
"The forecast models continue to show a warm up for the weekend, with a return to slightly above seasonal highs, meaning potentially 28 to 30 degrees," he added. "With that said, and the humidity factored in, it will feel like the mid to upper 30s this weekend."
According to Sumner, the more summer-like temperatures will be courtesy of ridging over the region, allowing a warmer and humid airmass to settle in.
