Despite an ongoing wildfire in the area, the province has decided to reopen Nopiming Provincial Park.

Starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, the province will reopen all of Nopiming for permanent residents, cottages and commercial operators.

The campground at Bird Lake is open. However, campgrounds at Beresford Lake, Black Lake and Tulabi Falls will remain closed for the remainder of the season, along with backcountry campsites at Shoe Lake and all water routes in the park.

Hiking trails are also closed, and people are encouraged not to take any backcountry trips in the area, as significant clean-up is required in these areas.

The fire continues to burn in the northern part of the park, and visible flames and smoke are expected to persist for the remainder of the summer and fall.

The fire was first detected on May 12, 2025, and has grown to over 302,779 hectares.
