Although most people probably aren’t thinking about the hockey season here in July. For the Weyburn Red Wings, hockey and community are always top of mind. As the Red Wings prepare for their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on August 13th and the start date of the regular season less than two months away, they’re looking to partner up with non-profit organizations here in Weyburn. Ryder Burns, sales and marketing director for the Red Wings, says they’ve had tons of success in the past and want to do more this 2025-2026 season.
“We're currently looking for non-profits to partner with for our special edition addition jersey night. It's something we do every year. It's one night only and all the proceeds go to that organization. Just helps to raise awareness for that nonprofit (organization) and help them with any financial support if they if they have any needs for that.”
The Red Wings have done this for the last couple years, one back in 2023 in support of the Family Place, and last year in support of the Weyburn Legion where they auctioned off the jerseys and raised $18,000. Burns reminisces on the past jersey nights and how special those are.
“Last year we did the (Weyburn) Legion, they needed a new roof I believe and that helped them raise money for that. Then, we did the Family Place the year before. So, this year we thought, why not have people reach out to us instead of us kind of just picking one that we think of right away."
Burns explains that every year, they look to find a sponsor for the jerseys to help cover the costs. Last year’s jersey night ceremony was sponsored by Jerry Mainil Ltd, and this allows them to help raise awareness for a good cause as well.
