Looking for a unique way to spend the August long weekend? Broken Arrow Youth Ranch, operated by Solid Rock Ministries, is inviting you to Ride the Rails in Ogema, Saskatchewan on Sunday, August 3 — all in support of a powerful cause.
The event features two scenic train rides with Southern Prairie Railway, a BBQ meal by Bud’s BBQ, live music, and a guided tour through the stunning Big Muddy Badlands — just two hours west of Estevan.
“We have the opportunity to do two train rides over at Ogema...at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August the 3rd, followed by an amazing meal at Ogema Hall through Bud’s BBQ. And then we're going to be doing a second evening ride starting at 6:00 PM,” said Todd Moroz, CEO of Solid Rock Ministries.
The afternoon ride is sold out, but about 30 seats remain for the evening.
If you’re not hopping on the train, you can still explore the Badlands.
“We're actually organizing a caravan... We're going to go to the famous Castle Butte location south of Bengough...and visiting the Big Beaver General Store.”
Adding to the experience, local singer Lisa Kuntz of Macoun will perform on the train, with more entertainment happening around Ogema.
“She’s a very talented artist, so we’re delighted that she’s going to be joining us.”
Proceeds from the event support Broken Arrow Youth Ranch’s mission to care for vulnerable children. Moroz encourages people to stay the weekend.
“I plan to camp there through the whole weekend at the Ogema Regional Park and make a weekend of it. So I’m hoping others are going to decide to do the same.”
