Two exciting games took place last night in the Battle River Baseball League, a pair of one run finishes setting up a finals rematch between the Macklin Lakers and Veteran Bulls.
After suffering their first loss of the season in Game 2 last week, Macklin hosted Amisk on Wednesday night for Game 3 and won 5-4.
Lakers starting pitcher Cody Gartner went five shutout innings, but the game remained close late, setting up leadoff hitter Hunter Steinhubel who hit a bottom of the seventh blast to left centre field to give the Lakers the win and berth in the BRBL Finals.
The other game in Veteran was another tight one between the home Bulls, and visitors from Czar.
The game was tied into the bottom of the sixth inning, when the Bulls managed to load the bases and squeeze one run across on a walk. The 6-5 score headed into the seventh ended up the final as Veteran joined Macklin in squeezing past their road opponents to earn a spot in the league championship series.
It took an extra game, but for now for the third straight year it will be Macklin taking on Veteran in the finals. Macklin will have home field advantage after an undefeated regular season, and the series should begin rather soon.
