Several Airdronians will be in the spotlight, performing at the Calgary Fringe Festival at the beginning of August.

Robin McKittrick, the playwright and director of On a Day Like This — A Cassette Carol, explained that the play was originally staged in November as part of their holiday lineup.

"On a whim, I entered it into the Calgary Fringe Festival, and was very grateful that the play was selected."

McKittrick hasn't performed in the festival before, but has gone to fringe shows before.

"We're excited to be presenting our little, wholesome Christmas play."

The festival is a nine-day (August 1-9) indoor theatre festival showcasing performing artists from across the globe. It strives to offer those who love theatre an opportunity to build community through the theatrical performing arts.

He explained that all those who are involved in the play are a part of Nose Creek Players.

"It's just such a great opportunity for people to see your work and see what others are working on. We're all very excited to be partaking in the event.

McKittrick went on to explain that the play is about.

"The premise of the play is that there is a mother and her daughter. It's around Christmas time, and they have the unfortunate task of having to pack up her father's apartment, because he has passed away. They're at the apartment, partially decorated for Christmas, and while they're packing things up, they stumble upon an old box of cassette tapes that the mom and her dad had recorded on when she was younger."

According to McKittrick, On a Day Like This - A Cassette Carol will be on display August 1,2,3,4,7 and 8.

He concluded by saying he is thankful that he is able to express his creativity with the play and hopes to see lots of people at the festival.
