TEMPLETON, Douglas “Doug” Gibson
November 7, 1929 - July 20, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Doug Templeton, at the age of 95 years, in Regina, at the Pasqua Hospital. Doug grew up on his parents’ farm near Riceton. He was the second youngest of six siblings born to James and Mary Templeton. As a child, Doug loved riding his horses and causing trouble with his younger brother Wes. His family moved to the Lumsden area in 1942, where he met the love of his life, Kay. Together they built their lives following his passion for farming, first south of Regina, then later near Rouleau when they relocated in 1966. This new opportunity is where Doug was able to fulfill his goal to farm with his four sons, Charlie, Allan, Brian and Lorne. He loved working on the land and taught his sons the same, and as the farm expanded, his role also evolved. Doug spent many hours in the tractor seeding, combining, and later harrowing and mowing ditches. He truly loved farming, especially in a John Deere tractor. Any visitors that came to the Templeton Farm were warmly welcomed and given the opportunity to experience what farming and family was all about. Alongside Kay and his sons, and with a foundation of a strong work ethic and forward thinking, he lived out his dream. Outside of farming, Doug shared Kay’s love of music and dancing. They formed a band with their four sons and extended family and played for many dances and weddings in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Doug and Kay attended numerous polka fests throughout the years and made many treasured friends along the way. Their time with friends was vastly important to both and they never missed a calendar event that they were invited to. The only thing Doug loved more than farming was his family. He showed his love in many ways, and he never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. Doug was as great role model, very loyal, and someone who provided countless words of advice and wisdom. He told it like it was and you were never left wondering how he felt about someone or something. He was predeceased by his wife Kay in 2021. Doug is survived by his sons Charlie (Cheryl), Allan (Wendie), Brian (Yvonne) and Lorne (Cindy); grandchildren Kara (Wade), Craig (Kirstin), Nicole (Peter), Natasha (Scott), Amber (Pat), Kyle (Lisa), Mark (Leanne), Bryden (Taylor), Michael (Jeffery), Nicole (Brett) and Erin (Carter); and twenty-three great-grandchildren Ty, Lane, Aubrie, Corey, Fay, Marley, Jobey, Bode, Levi, Casey, Hannah, Brayden, Nathan, Clay, Owen, Lily, Logan, Emma, Lincoln, Meyer, Mack, Anna and Sydney; special family friend Sharon; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Doug’s family is thankful for the kindness and compassion from the staff at Wintergreene, Dr. Lok and the staff at Gardens Medical Clinic, and the nurses in 3D at the Pasqua Hospital.
