Alberta Health Services (AHS) has ordered the closure of Saskatoon Farm's food facilities and is investigating more than 80 reports of illness and two hospitalizations potentially linked to the business.
The investigation began after AHS received several reports of illness from individuals who ate at Saskatoon Farm on July 15 and 16.
An inspector collected samples from the food preparation areas and water system for testing on July 19. Saskatoon Farm has stated it is cooperating with the investigation.
On July 23, AHS issued a closure order for the farm’s food facilities, which include the restaurant, bakery, and Red House.
According to a statement from AHS, the facilities will remain closed until test results are received and the kitchen has undergone a deep clean.
"To date, AHS is following up on 88 reports of illness, and two recent hospitalizations are under investigation to determine if they are related to this incident," the statement read.
The farm's other facilities, including the front office, gift store, and outdoor market stand, remain open.
AHS has not yet confirmed the specific illness involved and is still working to identify the source.
"Further investigation is ongoing, including additional environmental inspections, outreach to affected individuals to gather detailed information about their symptoms and food history, and a comprehensive review of the drinking water system. At this time, no definitive cause has been confirmed."
