With the cooler temperatures we have seen for periods of time looking to be behind us, with the weekend approaching, the City of Weyburn is looking forward to all of the activities being offered around the community.

The Communications Coordinator for the City, Paige Tenbult, detailed numerous opportunities for families to get out and enjoy the city, particularly children.

“Our Fun in the Sun mobile play park is a great opportunity for some free programming for children aged four to 10,” Tenbult explained. Crews set the roaming playground up in different parks throughout the city during the week, and kids are able to come out and take part in facilitator-led activities. The parks are set up between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. in the mornings. The mobile playground can be found at Don Mitchell Park on Mondays, Elks Park on Wednesdays, and River Park on Fridays.

No registration is needed for the mobile play park, but parents and guardians must sign a waiver. As well, those five and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The fun doesn’t end there, however, with two big events coming up in early August. The first will be the annual Heritage Village Days, which start on August 8th. Tenbult said more details about the activities for Heritage Village Days will be out in the coming days. The same day, residents will have the chance to help expand the city’s urban forest.

“We also have the Tatagwa Tree Day,” Tenbult explained. “It’s such a fun annual event where people can just dive in to planting trees with us and experiencing how our Tatagwa Parkway system and our urban forestry program is expanding over the years.”

Another popular activity for residents and visitors to Weyburn is visiting the Soo Line Historical Museum and Heritage Village. This year, admission to both is free thanks to a corporate sponsorship.

“They have been sponsored by Vermilion Energy so people can go into those museums and experience that for free,” noted Tenbult. She added that visitors may also notice some new and exciting changes at the Historical Museum for the 2025 season. While admission is free, visitors are encouraged to donate to help with the programming offered at both the museum and Heritage Village.

Beyond the planned activities for early August, the mobile play park, and the museums, there are a number of other summer activities in Weyburn. Tenbult explained there are numerous facilities open for public use, including the Young Fellows Paddling Pool at Don Mitchell Park, the spray parks at Don Mitchell Park and River Park, the outdoor pool at the Weyburn Leisure Centre, the Spark Centre, tennis courts, pickleball courts, and disc golf at River Park.

You can find all the details about what is happening around Weyburn throughout the summer on the Discover Weyburn Events Calendar and the City of Weyburn website.
