A $3.3 million investment from the provincial government will be used to support affordable housing in Okotoks.
Funding through the Affordable Housing Partnership Program (AHPP) will be allocated for the construction of a 40-unit apartment building in the D’Arcy neighbourhood for AISH recipients and those with modest incomes.
“At its heart, this project is about creating opportunity and security for the people who call Okotoks home. We’re deeply thankful for the province’s support and proud to see years of collaboration come to life in a way that will truly make a difference,” said Mayor Tanya Thorn. “This new development offers more than just housing. It offers peace of mind, stability, and a sense of belonging for those who need it most.”
Planning for the new development has been in the works for eight years.
Don Herring, Chairperson, Westwinds Communities, explained that the project was possible through funding from the Alberta Ministry of Assisted Living and Social Services AHPP, and a land donation from the Town of Okotoks.
“This 40-unit development in the D’Arcy community will provide safe, stable homes for AISH recipients, seniors, couples, and singles,” Herring said. “It’s a powerful step forward in addressing the urgent need for affordable rentals in our region and a testament to what true community collaboration can achieve.”
RJ Sigurdson, Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation and MLA for Highwood, added that the funding is fantastic news for Okotoks.
“It directly addresses the need for more affordable housing and strengthens our community,” he said. “This investment means more families, seniors, and individuals can continue to live and thrive in a safe, stable home right here in Okotoks."
