A Winnipeg man is in custody following a series of thefts across the Interlake that began with a stolen off-road vehicle.
On the morning of July 17th, Stonewall RCMP received a report about a stolen ORV from a property in the RM of Rockwood.
According to police, the suspect used the stolen vehicle to travel north into the RM of Armstrong, where items were taken from another property.
From there, he reportedly continued to Fraserwood, where grocery items were stolen from a business on Road 231.
Thanks to tips from community members, officers were able to track down the stolen vehicle and locate the suspect later that day, just down the road at another business in Fraserwood. The arrest was made without incident.
Russel Mitchell, 47, of Winnipeg, is now facing multiple charges, including break and enter, theft, and possession of property obtained by crime. He has also been charged with breaching the conditions of a previous release and remains in custody.
Officers from both the Stonewall and Gimli detachments continue to investigate, and the RCMP thanked the public for their quick assistance, which led to this arrest.
