The Weyburn Firefighters Association hopes to make the Fire Ball an event to remember for attendees, and a successful fundraiser for their new training facility.

Tickets are on sale now for the new event designed to replace Ladies Night, as it is open to anyone over 19, will be held at the Weyburn Agricultural Society's Exhibition Hall - originally scheduled for September 13th, but postponed due to conflicting events. The new date has yet to be announced.

"We have limited tickets, so make sure you get yours before they're all sold out," said Paid On-Call Firefighter Jola Erb.

The tickets are available for $70 and can be purchased at Pharmasave, through each of the firefighters, or by messaging their Facebook page

The organization has also put out a call for donations to the event's raffles.

"We've been sending out a few donation requests. We've heard back on quite a few, and we've been getting some donations, but we're still looking because we want it to be a good night for everyone to win something."

Erb said anyone who wants to arrange to drop off or have items picked up can email weyburnfirebrigade@outlook.com.

Volunteers from the Family Place readily accepted the call to help out with the event's set up and other tasks involved in putting together a night out on the town, which kicks off at 5 p.m. with a brisket supper at 6:30 and entertainment provided by local band Moody Hollow.

The event will be raising funds for the new training facility, which Erb said is now in phase two of development.

"We have the structures up. We've been doing some maintenance for the buildings because we do have to make sure that they're safe and we can actually go up to the second story, so all the welding, everything like that is being done. It's been a slow process, but it's going really well."

"Each scenario, each call is different. We need to be training and different tactics and different skills."

Another recent fundraising effort for the WFA was serving barbecue at the Gifted Summer Art Market on July 19th.

"We had many people voice that it was amazing that we were there because it's hard for them to leave the art market once it's already going, so being right there with food, it was good. Everyone came and got a bite to eat."
