Manitobans are invited to explore the newly renovated Dakota Waterplay Park at the Dakota Community Centre.
“Community investment in projects like the Dakota Wading Pool and Waterplay Park help our neighbourhoods thrive,” said Mike Moyes, Minister of Environment and Climate Change and MLA for Riel in a news release. “The province of Manitoba is proud to contribute funding to this new playground so that children and families can enjoy healthy recreation and time together for years to come.”
The water area received several upgrades, including new accessible spray features, and replacement of the pump, pool surround, and rubberized surfacing.
“The newly renovated Dakota Waterplay Park is a great addition to the south St. Vital community, especially during our warm Winnipeg summers,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham in a news release. “Investing in recreation facilities is about building vibrant, welcoming spaces for all Winnipeggers to enjoy. These are the places where kids play, neighbours connect, and memories are made.”
The City of Winnipeg Recreation and Library Facility Investment Strategy created a budget for the project of $480,000.
"The newly upgraded Dakota Waterplay Park represents our continued commitment to creating inclusive, accessible spaces where families can connect and enjoy Winnipeg’s summers,” said Councillor Vivian Santos, Chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Community Services in a news release.
“These improvements ensure that children of all ages and abilities can safely experience the joy of water play, while providing a refreshed community gathering place. Investments like this, through the City’s partnership with the Province of Manitoba, help strengthen neighbourhood hubs like Dakota Community Centre for years to come."
“Aquatics play a vital role in our community by offering a cool, welcoming space where children and parents can relax, play, and escape the scorching temperatures together,” said Markus Chambers, Councillor for St. Norbert – Seine River in a news release. “Whether splashing under the fountains or lounging nearby, the spray pad provides a perfect way to stay active and refreshed all season long. I am thrilled with the reopening of this beloved community spot, now featuring exciting new water features designed just for kids. From interactive spray jets to refreshing waterfalls, there’s plenty of fun to beat the summer heat.”
All wading pools, outdoor pools, and splash pads are now open for the season.
