Hilda Marofke (née Heinrichs)
June 1, 1939 – July 19, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Hilda Marofke, on July 19, 2025, at the age of 86. She passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family and the grace of the Lord.
Born on June 1, 1939, in Winkler, Manitoba, Hilda was the child of Jacob and Lena Heinrichs. She grew up on the family farm in Plum Coulee alongside her siblings Mary, Henry, Lena, and Agatha. As a young woman, Hilda moved to Winnipeg and worked as a health care aide, dedicating herself to caring for others. On October 24, 1964, she married the love of her life, Edmund Marofke, at Waldersee Lutheran Church. Together, they built a life and farmed in Amaranth, Manitoba, raising four sons: Gerald, Terence, Edwin, and Vern. In 2002, Hilda and Edmund retired to Portage la Prairie, where they enjoyed volunteering at the MCC and joined the Bible Baptist congregation. Her faith was always at the center of her life. She regularly attended services, participated in Bible study, and loved singing in the choir.
After Edmund’s passing, Hilda moved to Carberry in 2011. She quickly made it her home, enjoying the senior center, coffee outings with friends, and the adult day program. As her health declined in 2017, Hilda moved to McCreary Personal Care Home for what was to be a temporary stay. Falling in love with the home and its Caregivers she chose to remain. She spent her days embroidering quilt blocks for her grandchildren, coloring with her treasured markers and pencils, reading outdoors, and enjoying music performances.
In 2024, she moved to the Carberry Personal Care Home to be closer to family. Hilda leaves behind her loving sons and their spouses — Gerald (Nicole) their son Connor of Tofield, Alberta, Terence (Sandy) and their children Ashton and Amber of Thompson, Manitoba, Edwin (Twilia) and their children Jesse, Joshua, and Jillian of Carberry, Manitoba, and Vern (Jennifer) and their children Haylee and Mercedez of Edmonton Alberta.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Portage and Carberry Home Care, the McCreary and Carberry PCH staff, and all who walked alongside Hilda with compassion and care.
The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 11:30 am, at the Carberry Evangelical Free Church, 409 Toronto St, Carberry, MB, with viewing at the church one hour prior to the service. Following the service in Carberry, the Burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery, Portage la Prairie, at 2:15 p.m. All are welcome to attend either service and share memories of a life well-lived.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Carberry Personal Care Home Recreation Program.
