Saskatchewan’s retail sector is in great shape according to the latest numbers issued by Statistics Canada and reported in a release from the Government of Saskatchewan.
Stats Can numbers released July 25 show Saskatchewan with a 6.4 per cent year over year increase (seasonally adjusted) from May 2024 to May 2025. That puts Saskatchewan in a second-place tie for retail growth in Canada, ahead of the national average of 4.9 per cent.
"The continued growth in our retail sector reflects our province's strong economy and is leading to more jobs and opportunities for Saskatchewan people," Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding said. "When the province's economy is strong, our residents get better access to the programs and services they need."
Retail sales is a measure of total receipts at stores, or establishments, that sell goods and services to final consumers.
Stats Can also reports strong gross domestic product (GDP) growth with an all-time high of $80.5 billion last year, an increase of $$2.6 billion, or 3.4 per cent. Again, Saskatchewan topped the national average of 1.6 per cent, ranking second among the provinces. The province topped the list for private capital investment last year with a striking 17.3 per cent increase, showing investments of $14.7 billion.
