The Medicine Hat Mavericks scored a total of 33 runs as they swept a two-game series over the Moose Jaw Miller Express this week.

Last night, a six-run sixth inning led the Mavericks to a 16-10 win.

Medicine Hat opened with a pair of runs in the top of the first. Moose Jaw then tied the game in the bottom of the second. Eduardo Saenz scored off a Tanner DeGrazia single, and Robert Estrada crossed home plate on a passed ball.

After two scoreless innings, Medicine Hat put up six runs, including a home run from Jeremy Freeman Jr., to take an 8-2 lead.

Medicine Hat scored another run in the top of the sixth. However, Moose Jaw replied with Austin Gurney scoring on a wild pitch.

The seventh inning was a slugfest, as both teams combined for nine runs. Medicine Hat scored five in the top of the seventh, and Moose Jaw followed that up with four runs of their own. William Edwards hit a two-run home run, and Jackson Martin hit a double to drive home Gurney and Saenz.

Medicine Hat added two more runs in the top of the eighth to make it 16-7. In the bottom half of the inning, Thomas Soto hit a single to drive home Pacey Phillips, and Andy Rivas doubled to score Soto and Ben Waliczek. The ninth inning went scoreless to make the final 16-10.

Looking at the East Division standings, the fourth-place Miller Express sit three and a half games back of the Regina Red Sox for third place, while Weyburn trails Moose Jaw by seven and a half games.

The Miller Express are back in action tonight when they head to Weyburn to face the Beavers. On Saturday, Moose Jaw heads north to Saskatoon to take on the Berries in the first game of a home-and-home series. The Miller Express host the Berries at Ross Wells Park on Sunday at 2:05 p.m.
