A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for a large part of southern Alberta.
Environment Canada issued the Watch because thunderstorms are expected to develop late this afternoon or early evening.

Some of the thunderstorms could have a chance of becoming severe, giving strong wind gusts and large hail.
Because these storms are tracking east, watches could be expanded to the east later in the afternoon.

These watches are issued when the conditions become favourable for thunderstorms capable of creating damaging hail, wind, or rain.
