Manitoba health officials are reporting a new measles exposure at Tornado’s Restaurant and Lounge in Portage la Prairie on July 20 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Anyone present during that time is asked to monitor for symptoms until Aug. 11 and check their immunization status.
Measles cases have totaled 167 in Manitoba between February and July 2025, with a peak of 72 confirmed cases in May and 39 in July.
For those born in 1970 or later who have never had measles or the vaccine, public health recommends vaccination and limiting contact with others, especially the immunocompromised, from five to 21 days after exposure.
Symptoms include fever, runny nose, red eyes, and a red rash spreading from the face. Those who develop symptoms should isolate and contact a health-care provider.
Certain groups, including infants under six months and pregnant women, should not get vaccinated but may be eligible for preventive treatment.
Measles spreads easily and can be serious, especially in young children. Immunization remains the best protection.
Public health continues to monitor the outbreak and updates cases weekly on the Manitoba measles website.
