Softball Saskatchewan closed out their provincial calendar over the weekend with the Men's Open and Women's Open tournaments in Saskatoon.

Three local teams were in action across two tournaments — the UK Royals in the women's division and Delisle Diamond Dogs and Conquest Capitals on the men's side — Delisle making it the furthest after earning their way to Sunday where they fell short in the semi-finals.

The Diamond Dogs tournament started on the right foot with a 13-4 win against the Saskatoon Padres on Friday morning. Their next action Saturday morning was another high scoring win 11-4 against Gordon's Golden Hawks, but then on Friday night Delisle suffered their first loss 11-7 to the Dry Creek Penguins.

Conquest lost 5-2 to Bruno to open their tournament on Friday morning, unable to rebound Saturday in an 8-0 loss to the Grenfell Gems. The weekend ended on the right note with a 6-4 Capitals win over The Rez, but Conquest went home Saturday night with a 1-2 record.

One of eight teams to advance, Delisle's tournament run came to an end in the second set of quarterfinals after a 7-0 loss to Grenfell. In the final four the Earl Grey Rockets beat Grenfell, and the Neudorf Posse took down Dry Creek, and in the finals, it was Neudorf coming out on top 5-4 in a close finish from Saskatoon.

On the other side, the Unity based UK Royals played three games in the Women's Open provincial tournament in Moose Jaw.

The round robin started off tough with a 6-0 loss to the Saskatoon Lunar Eclipse, and then getting back on the diamond Saturday at 12:30 the Royals lost 8-4 to the Saskatoon Lunar Eclipse. Thay may have ended their hopes at playing Sunday, but the team finished on a good note with an 11-1 win over the host Moose Jaw Strikers on Saturday night.

On Sunday a pair of low scoring semi-finals resulted in Regina's Earl Grey Heat playing the Saskatoon Lunar Eclipse in the finals, and it was the Heat bringing the bats bigtime for a 14-2 final score to win the Women's Open.
