Hope Thrift Store in Morden is getting ready for its seventh Donation Day of the year. This time around, the support will be for Winkler’s Central Station, with all proceeds from sales that day going directly to the organization.

Operations Manager Warren Neufeld explained that, “We want to be a part of our community,” he said. “As much as our main focus is to support orphanages in Mexico, we also believe that we need to be a part of the local community.”

Donation Day

Being the seventh go around, Hope Thrift has been able to give money to six other organizations this year so far.

“We have different organizations apply for it and we've picked 12 this year that we will dedicate all of the proceeds that day going towards them, and so any sales that they get, they get the cheque,” said Neufeld, “That’s what Donation Day is.”

Proceeds thus far have gone to groups like Winkler Bible Camp, Pembina Valley Bible Camp, 1613 Ministries, the Winkler Cancer Care Resource Centre, and the Pembina Valley Pregnancy Care Centre.

“It's been good, and we get to build relationships with their organizations, and they get to sit here and tell people about what they do.”

A call for volunteers

Hope Thrift is also encouraging people to consider getting involved.

“We're always looking for adult volunteers, people that are retired, people that have time,” said Neufeld. “We would always love to have people come down and see me and we can talk about what we do.”

The time commitment is flexible, and Neufeld says they should be able to work around your schedule.

“We have some people that come for one day, one day a month, or they come for three days or every day… we have about 44 different departments that we have people in charge of. And so yeah, we have lots for people to do.”
