Nanton Round-Up Days is returning this weekend.

According to the Nanton Mayor, Jennifer Handley, there is plenty happening all weekend long.

"Every day has numerous events that are happening, all planned by local businesses and the Chamber of Commerce and the volunteers here in town," Mayor Handley explains. "We've got a rodeo that's happening Friday to Monday. We've got our parade that happens on Monday morning."

They also have fireworks on the Sunday evening, as well as the Chili Cook-Off.

"That happens Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. on Main Street. And this year, we have over 15 different chilis' so far registered. Registration closes on July 31, so there's still time. And anyone can register."

Meaning, anyone who thinks they've got a great chili they want to share is able to participate, and they have roughly 400 people sampling the chili.

"And this year, we're actually pairing the Chili Cook-Off with a Main Street Festival as well. So, we've got 25 vendors that will be set up on Main Street. That's a new addition to the Chili Cook-Off this year, which will be great."

According to Mayor Handley, this event isn't put on by the town, but by businesses and volunteers.

As part of Round-Up Days, there will be a couple of pancake breakfasts, a Children's Festival, Grain Elevator tours, a Duck Race, fireworks, and more.

Mayor Handley says the fireworks will happen at Lions Hill, which is the park right across the street from the Tim Hortons.

"And if you want the best seats in the house, the Hive here in Nanton also sells seats, and all the money raised goes back to the fireworks display."

The parade will happen on Monday, August 4, starting at 10 a.m. at 24 Ave and 24 Street.

After the parade on Monday, the Bomber Command Museum will have an engine run.

"I know a lot of people love watching that old bomber startup, so that's always a good one."

Also on the Monday, after the parade, there will be a duck race in Mosquito Creek.

As part of the duck race, they will dump hundreds of rubber ducks into Mosquito Creek, and people are ale to pick a duck and win money.

"I would say this year it's definitely a bumper year for events. There's some new activities that are happening at the pool. We've also got a teepee that's being set up down at the grain elevator, so that's a really fun new addition."
