A power outage that affected parts of the Town of Cochrane and Rocky View County has been resolved, according to FortisAlberta.
At the time of the outage, FortisAlberta’s outage map showed two separate disruptions impacting approximately 500 customers. One of the outages had already entered the “restoration in progress” phase, while the other was still under investigation.
No service disruptions were reported in Airdrie, although the area remained under a severe thunderstorm watch Monday afternoon.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, damaging hail and heavy rain. Thunderstorms developing over the foothills in southern Alberta will move generally eastward this afternoon and evening,” Environment Canada stated in its initial watch issued Monday.
At that time, Airdrie’s forecast called for a 60 per cent chance of rain and a risk of severe thunderstorms. Fog patches were expected to develop overnight as winds eased, with a low of 8°C.
For Tuesday, July 29, the forecast called for a mix of sun and cloud with a 30 per cent chance of showers late in the afternoon and a risk of a thunderstorm. Morning fog patches were expected to dissipate. The high was forecast at 24°C with a humidex of 27. The UV index was expected to reach 7, or high.
Tuesday night was expected to begin partly cloudy, with a 30 per cent chance of showers and a risk of a thunderstorm early in the evening before clearing. Fog patches were expected to return overnight, with a low of 8°C.
