Two recruits from Wheatland County and Banff Municipal Enforcement were among 29 new peace officers recognized at a City of Calgary graduation ceremony.

“Congratulations to our newest peace officers,” the city said in a July 28 post. “We proudly celebrate the graduation of 29 new peace officers at a ceremony held at HMCS Tecumseh.”

The class included 14 Calgary Transit Peace Officers, 13 Community Safety Peace Officers, and two officers from Wheatland and Banff.

“These officers are now ready to serve and protect our communities with professionalism, dedication, and care,” the city said.

It was not immediately clear how the two external officers were distributed between the two jurisdictions.

Earlier in the week, Calgary Police Service announced the graduation of 23 new officers from Class 263. CPS said 63 per cent of the class had completed post-secondary studies, and 21 per cent spoke at least one language other than English.

The new police officers are set to begin patrol duties across the city next week.
