Environment Canada’s seven-day forecast for the Airdrie and Calgary region calls for highs of 26 to 28°C through Thursday and Friday, with humidex values near 30 and overnight lows around 10°C. But rain is set to return for the long weekend.

Saturday through Monday is expected to bring multiple rounds of showers, with daytime highs falling to 19 or 20°C by Aug. 4.

According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, the Prairies can expect “scattered rain” and “mild” temperatures from Aug. 1 to 7, followed by “thunderstorms east, showery west” from Aug. 8 to 13. The forecast calls for “a few heavy t-storms” through mid-August and a shift toward drier, warmer conditions later in the month.

“August temperature 15°C (2°C below avg.), precipitation 95mm (35mm above avg.),” the Almanac states in its 2025 long-range forecast for the region.

The Farmer’s Almanac, which issues a separate forecast, projects “squally weather” for Saskatchewan and Manitoba over the Aug. 1 to 3 Civic Holiday stretch. Alberta is expected to see fair and hot weather through Aug. 7, with more thunderstorms forecast mid-month.

From Aug. 12 to 15, the Almanac predicts “fair skies for central and western provinces, then thunderstorms for Alberta.” Pleasant conditions are expected briefly from Aug. 16 to 19, followed by showery, unsettled patterns later in the month — particularly for Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Looking further ahead, the Farmer’s Almanac says Fall 2025 “will trend cooler than average, particularly across the Prairie Provinces,” with the possibility of wet snow by mid-October.

“Thanksgiving weekend… offers a brief reprieve,” it adds, but cautions that the Prairies “may see rain or wet snow,” while Halloween “may see a mix of rain and snow” across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

While both Almanacs differ in their broader summer outlooks — with the Old Farmer’s Almanac generally predicting a cooler, wetter season and the Farmer’s Almanac calling for “hot” or “scorcher” periods — their August and autumn predictions for the Prairies appear to converge on two themes: below-normal warmth and above-normal moisture.
