Auto theft is down in Strathmore, according to a report by the local police detachment.

The report covers between January and March of 2025 and was presented to town council at their meeting on Wednesday (July 25) by Staff Sergeant Mark Wielgosz.

According to the report, vehicle theft is down from five incidents to two by the same time this year, a decrease of 75 per cent.

Break and enters are on the rise, however, as cases have jumped from two to four, an uptick of 100 per cent.

Strathmore RCMP also detailed several other programs and initiatives in the report, including Operation Cold Start, which served to prevent auto theft during the winter months.

During the operation, officers found 33 vehicles idling with keys inside and the doors unlocked. 

Police also handed out 99 traffic tickets, including two for impaired driving, and five for driving while disqualified.

As for car crashes, reportable collisions saw a 26 per cent drop from 27 incidents to 20, while injury collisions were unchanged at five.
