On Saturday, two members of The Airdrie Legion Branch 288, Keith Shaw and Bob McNevin, received the King Charles III Coronation pin.

They received the pins at the 12th annual Korean War Veterans Day Ceremony, which marked the 72nd Anniversary of the Korean War Armistice.

Andy Choi, Chairman of the Calgary Korean Association, presented the pins to McNevin and Shaw on behalf of Senator Yonah Martin.

"This pin, along with Senator Yonah Martin's certificate, was presented to Keith Shaw and Bob McNevin, past presidents of RCL 288, in recognition of their dedicated service to the activities related to the Korean War & Veterans," he wrote.

Airdrie-Cochrane Member of Parliament Blake Richards is thankful to have Shaw and McNevin in Airdrie.

"The Airdrie legion goes out of its way to ensure that remembrance happens all year long."

Richards believes that Shaw and McNeven do so much to go above and beyond to ensure that veterans are remembered, respected and appreciated.

"Being veterans themselves and having served our country in uniform, they are very deserving of this honour."

At the event on Saturday, dignitaries representing the Calgary Korean Association, special guest Lieutenant General Derek Macaulay, the Deputy Commander of the United Nations Command, and local politicians were in attendance.

The reason Airdrie plays host to the event each year is because Airdrie is home of a monument that commemorates the courage of the Veterans from the 2nd Battalion of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry Regiment, who bravely fought in the crucial battle from April 22-25, 1951, contributing to the defence of Seoul, the capital of South Korea, during the Korean War.
