A hands-on Field Day hosted by the Saskatchewan Soil Association is set to take place this Friday near St. Victor, Saskatchewan, offering a unique opportunity for farmers, ranchers, and agricultural enthusiasts to witness the power of regenerative farming in action.
"The event is for anybody who has an interest in rejuvenating their soils or looking for soil health practices that will improve the health of their soil," said Tanya Craddock, an executive producer for Sask Soil.
Local producers Adrien and Cheryl Lanoie will open their operation to the public, sharing insights from their transformative seven-year journey with holistic management and regenerative practices. Through a steadfast commitment to land stewardship, soil health, and ecological balance, the Lanoies have doubled their herd and now successfully manage up to 175 cow-calf pairs on just four quarters of land—even during challenging drought conditions.
"It's about teaching people to, you know, steward, steward, batter, and make a profit. You know, in the things that we're doing, instead of just, you know, working smarter, instead of harder," said Cheryl Lanoie.
The Field Day will feature a guided grass tour, where attendees can observe the tangible results of techniques such as planned grazing, bale grazing, and herd impact. These practices have not only improved the farm’s productivity but also revitalized the landscape, enhanced wildlife habitats, and strengthened the energy, mineral, and water cycles on the land.
The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at NW.19.5.29.W2. Interested participants are encouraged to register in advance at sasksoil.ca/events. For more information, contact 1-306-371-4213.
