A missing person was located by the Weyburn Police Service last week, after a BOLO (be on the look out) was issued by the RCMP. An elderly man had left Regina en route to Midale at 2:30 p.m., but had not arrived by 8:15 p.m.

Deputy Chief with the WPS, Shane St. John, says the description of the vehicle and driver was noticed by one of their members on patrol.

“One of our members on patrol was keeping an eye out for that vehicle as well as other things and did locate the gentleman, he was rather confused due to his age. [The member] made sure he was OK and brought him here to the station until family could come and get him.”

“They, of course, were very thankful and it was all resolved with him being healthy and getting home safely.”

BOLO alerts are sent to all relevant detachments, in this case, St. John says the area was likely quite widespread, as the confused state of the man could have led him in any direction.

“He could have gone north from Regina, or south or east or west. So, you never know what direction he might have left Regina being in a confused state. It was it was important, likely to get that out a little bit wider range than just this area.”

St. John explains that WPS members often receive BOLO alerts and ensure to keep the provided descriptions in mind. In this case, it allowed the man to make it home safety.

“When they're on patrol, they're always keeping an eye open for a certain BOLO because you never know if it's in town or not. They were just very observant and it’s good to see members taking those Bolo's seriously and finding that gentleman.”
