The M.D. of Willow Creek is in the final stages of updating the Land Use Bylaw.

Work has been ongoing to update the bylaw since 2022.

Through the process to adopt the draft bylaw, the town has completed preliminary consultation, which included open houses, videos, and a questionnaire.

The M.D. Council reviewed the feedback collected and made amendments based on residents’ recommendations.

“This ‘made in Willow Creek’ bylaw seeks to address key issues that were identified by council,” the M.D. of Willow Creek website said.

Changes include simplified regulations to increase accessibility and understanding of the bylaw, clear direction on permitted land uses, simplifying development guidelines to ensure decisions are transparent and consistent, integrating the former Town of Granum Land Use Bylaw into the M.D. bylaw, increasing the flexibility and adaptability by reducing regulations where not necessary, and aligning the bylaw with current planning practices.

“The Land Use Bylaw is a living document, meaning it is regularly reviewed and updated and amended each year to reflect changes in circumstances,” the M.D. of Willow Creek said.

Before council decides on the draft bylaw, the town will host a public hearing.

Residents are invited to submit written comments on the draft that will be considered by council, or voice their opinions in person at the hearing.

Council will consider all input and make any final changes to the draft.

The final version of the bylaw could receive second and third readings to enact a new Land Use Bylaw.

The public hearing is set for Sept. 10 at 1:30 p.m. in the M.D. of Willow Creek Council Chambers.
