The Alberta government is expected to unveil new infrastructure plans this afternoon to support Airdrie’s fast-growing population.

Transportation and Economic Corridors Minister Devin Dreeshen is scheduled to make the announcement at 2:30 p.m. in the city’s South Winds neighbourhood. Airdrie-East MLA Angela Pitt and Mayor Peter Brown will join him.

This is the second time in recent months that a provincial cabinet minister has appeared in Airdrie to address infrastructure tied to population growth.

In March, Health Minister Adriana LaGrange confirmed $2 million in planning funds for an integrated primary and urgent care facility as part of Budget 2025. But LaGrange gave no firm timeline for when the facility would open, and the project remains in the planning stage.

At that time, the province also acknowledged that renovations to Airdrie Community Health Centre—initially expected by late summer—had been delayed to fall 2025.

One Health Airdrie, approved in 2024 as the city’s primary care operator, will work alongside a publicly funded urgent care provider selected through a competitive process. The proposed facility is expected to expand urgent care capacity by 200 per cent, according to Dr. Julian Kyne.

Airdrie’s population surpassed 90,000 as of April 1, 2025 — an increase of 4,239 residents over the previous year, according to results of the city’s 2025 annual municipal census.
